Winter is coming… and here at Jindowie we have created a fool-proof plan on how to prepare and overcome the winter blues this season through the practice of self-care. As the days grow colder and darker, our mood can change as we feel less inclined to venture out of the house, socialise and connect. As a result, the motivation to exercise, explore and stay active can also dwindle and, if left unregulated, feelings of loneliness and isolation can arise. This is why being proactive with self-care and looking after your health and wellbeing during this time of year is so important.
Nourish your body
Show yourself some love by indulging in a delicious, hearty winter meal. Not only will this give your body and mind fuel to function at its best, but it will also make spending time in your home enjoyable and relaxing. Adding vegetables and nutrients to your dishes will also help your immune system function optimally, which will provide protection in peak cold and flu season. On the days you find yourself needing extra down-time, treat yourself to a delectable take-away meal from one of Yanchep’s many fine restaurants.
Manage your time online
Relying on social media and digital devices is normal in this day and age, and can provide a great source of connection and entertainment. However when used to excess, it can be an unnecessary cause of stress. It’s a good idea to be mindful when it’s time to put the screens away and pull out the self-care strategies. When it’s dark and stormy outside and you find yourself reaching for your phone that you may have put down five minutes earlier, think ‘opposite action’. By this we mean if you’re just aimlessly scrolling for the sake of passing the time, choose the opposite and allocate screen-free activities like having a bath, reading a book or writing in a journal. You’ll be amazed at how good it feels to disconnect from the outside world for a moment and reconnect with yourself.
Pleasant activities
There are plenty of pleasant activities to do in winter, especially when living at Jindowie Estate. Make the most of the daylight hours and go for a stroll around the parks and paths near your home. While we may not have snow, get in the winter spirit anyway and take the family on a day trip to Perth Ice Arena and go ice skating. If you’re looking for pleasant activities that don’t involve leaving the house, turn your living room into a cosy movie theatre and enjoy watching your favourite films with your well-loved blanket and a warm drink. Whatever it is that brings you joy, practice incorporating it into your daily winter routine.
